I recently completed Mastering GEO: Generative Engine Optimization, a course from Ostad. I enrolled because I wanted to understand AI search beyond surface-level tips and learn how brands and content can become easier for large language models to understand, trust, and reference.

For me, GEO is not a completely separate discipline from SEO. It connects closely with the work I already do around content, search intent, brand positioning, technical SEO, and building useful information for real users. The course helped me connect those pieces more clearly.

Why I Enrolled in the Course

A few months earlier, I met Shahriar Hasan bhai at WordCamp Dhaka 2025. He delivered an insightful session on LLM SEO, and the topic immediately caught my attention.

Later, I saw that he was conducting a more detailed course on Generative Engine Optimization through Ostad. Since I was already spending more time studying how content appears in AI-driven search and answer engines, enrolling felt like a natural next step.

The course was worth it for me because it went much deeper than simply telling us to “write for AI.” It explained how search engines, language models, entities, brands, content signals, and technical accessibility connect.

Some of the areas I found especially useful included:

  • Entity and NLP optimization
  • LLM ranking and visibility factors
  • Technical SEO considerations for LLM crawlers and AI search
  • Brand mentions, citations, and authority signals
  • Content syndication and distribution
  • Structuring content so machines can understand the topic, context, and relationships more clearly

What I appreciated most was that the course connected content writing with the bigger picture of brand visibility. Generative search is not only about optimizing a single article. A model may build its understanding of a company or product from many signals across the web.

It Changed How I Think About Content Optimization

Traditional SEO already taught me to think about search intent, topical relevance, internal structure, technical accessibility, and authority. GEO adds another useful question: Is the brand and its information clear enough for an LLM to understand what it is, what it does, and when it should be mentioned?

That changes the way I review content. I now pay more attention to clear entity relationships, direct answers, consistent product and brand information, useful supporting context, original experience, citations, and how the same brand is represented across different sources.

It also reinforced something I already believed from working with SEO and content: there is rarely one magic optimization. Visibility is usually the result of many connected signals working together.

How I Am Applying These Lessons

The most valuable part of learning a new strategy is being able to use it. I have already started applying ideas from the course while writing and optimizing content for LLM visibility.

Instead of treating GEO as a checklist, I try to combine it with the fundamentals I already use in SEO and content strategy. The goal is still to create genuinely useful content, but to make the information, entities, expertise, and brand context easier for both people and machines to understand.

My Takeaway

Completing the Mastering GEO course gave me a more structured understanding of where search and content are moving. It also gave me practical ideas I can test in real content rather than simply following every new AI SEO trend.

I am still learning and testing because this area is evolving quickly. But the course strengthened the connection between my SEO, content, brand, and technical knowledge, and it has already made my approach to LLM-focused content more practical.
